Past Members v Delete Members

Past members is a mechanism for removing old players records from the main members system, without leaving big holes in old scorecards and averages.  It also means if someone leaves the club and comes back later you can then restore them as a current member, and all their old stats will still be visible.

Members records only have to be added once, they are then on the system for good, and a full performance history is built up.

The point of a past member is that it allows you to keep member information when there is other data linked to that member record, that means that member record cannot be deleted, i.e. they have been selected, they have won honours, played in matches etc....  It allows you to move old members to the past members section, which also revokes their login.  Their information is still there but it doesn't show up in lists like team selections.

The delete has to remain as people sometimes find they inadvertently add an extra member twice, or just add test members etc... You don't want these to be cluttering up the past members area, if we always just moved the record into there.

The box that gives help text above the delete/past members icon, explains the action that will be taken for any given member.  The confirmation box further confirms this action (whether it's a delete or a mark as past member).
